Frequently asked questions
I’m new! How do I get connected?
Welcome to first, love! We would love to connect with you and get to know you! Please click here and one of our leaders will gladly reach out and introduce you to first, love and what we do!
How is first, love different from the other Christian fellowships in claremont?
That’s a great question! We encourage students of all faith backgrounds to bring their doubts and questions about the Christian faith and life to these groups for open dialogue with one another. We also center all that we do on the Gospel by studying God’s Word and by living out transformed lives together through our love for one another. All of our groups and meetings are led by students of the Claremont Colleges. Lastly, we are defined by our core values that distinguish us as a group and guide us to who God has called us to be.
Is first, love open to all students at the 5Cs?
Yes! first, love is a registered 5C religious student organization that is open to students from all Claremont College schools. We welcome students from all faith backgrounds to enter into dialogue with us about the Christian faith and what it means to follow Jesus.
What is usually offered on campus?
Each semester, we host Life Groups on campus — groups of students who grow together as a family by studying God’s Word, living out life’s rhythms, and learning to live on God’s mission together. We also offer Exploring Christianity Groups — these are safe spaces in which students of of all faith backgrounds and religions meet weekly to explore and discuss the claims of the Christian faith. We also host weekly Large Groups on Saturday nights where we gather to worship, hear the Gospel proclaimed through teaching, and fellowship together.
Which community group is right for me?
It all depends on what you’re comfortable with, but you are more than welcome to check out all of our different groups here. If you are looking to explore the Christian faiths and bring your doubts and asking questions, we recommend joining an Exploring Christianity Group. If your desire is to study God’s Word with other students, we recommend joining a Bible Study Group. If you need a space to share, pray, and fellowship with a small group of friends, we recommend joining a DNA Group (these groups meet at separate times than bible study times listed, times/days TBD).
What does first, love believe?
There is a diversity of thought amongst members of first, love and we do not require students to take on particular theological positions in order to be part of our group. However, the leadership team holds to the historic Christian faith, as outlined in the New City Catechism.
